about

skateboard yoga was first conceptualized
by Theo Hearst, in the summer of 2005,
when he was trying to do a stretch with a yoga block,
but it didn’t give him the angle he was looking for.

Theo happened to have a skateboard nearby, so he put the yoga block on top of it,
and with that achieved the perfect height.
Theo used the yoga block & skateboard together on a regular basis
for months and then years.

one time when his wife asked, “what are you doing,”
while he was doing a stretch with the two items,
in an eureka moment, Theo said, “SKATEBOARD YOGA,”
and like Edison must have felt when he invented the light bulb,
or more like the commercial where the chocolate goes into the peanut butter,
Theo knew he found something.

also during this same time period,
he started to see that skateboarders sometimes looked like they were doing yoga,
like there were yoga & zen moments, if only for a fraction of a second,
in the skaters riding, before landing, or not landing, a trick or move.
mostly though, Theo thought the term he coined, skateboard yoga,
was a combination of: funny, bizarre, oxymoron, cool, hip;
and it became a mantra, a way, a web site a blog & a company.
get in the know. spread the love.

namaste dude,

Theo Hearst

…you don’t have to skate or do yoga to skateboard yoga; it’s a state of mind.
